- Once admitted to the hospital, patients stay an average of 4.5 days, which costs around $17,500. This excludes the additional costs of surgeries, physician fees, lab work, medications, etc.
- Medical expenses directly cause 66.5% of bankruptcies, making it the leading cause of bankruptcy. Additionally, medical problems that lead to work loss cause 44% of bankruptcies.
